Exact Comms Gateway – Installation Guidelines

Installation Guidelines

General Setup

  1. One Gateway Per Site Area (as needed): Install at least one gateway per defined monitoring zone or site. Larger areas or multiple entrances may require more.
  2. Power On: Plug the device into a standard power outlet. The LED indicator will light up briefly.
  3. Wi-Fi Required: Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network with no login timeouts or restrictions (e.g. captive portals or guest networks with inactivity timeouts).

Placement Guidelines

Ideal Spot: Place the gateway where staff or assets frequently pass — e.g. near entrance/exit points or staff common areas.
Distance from Staff Movement: Keep within 3–5 meters of expected human or asset flow to ensure detection.
Orientation: Place with minimal obstructions between the gateway and the space being monitored.

Wi-Fi Setup & Range Considerations

Wi-Fi Network Requirements

  1. SSID must be consistently available.

  • Avoid Wi-Fi networks that: Require re-authentication (e.g., guest portals)

Gateway Detection Range

  • Typical BLE coverage: Up to 30m indoors, depending on walls, interference, and beacon TX Power.

  • Gateways should overlap slightly in coverage areas for seamless data relay.

Final Checks

  1. After you’ve entered the Wi-Fi details and turned the gateway back on, wait a few seconds — it should start blinking green, which confirms that the Wi-Fi connection is working properly.

Troubleshooting

  • No data received?

    • Check power connection.

    • Ensure Wi-Fi credentials were entered correctly.

    • Check for Wi-Fi signal strength at the device location.

  • Frequent disconnections?

    • Switch to a more stable Wi-Fi network or contact us for Mi-Fi options.
